Privacy Policy

BedWatch Africa Ltd is registered under the Ghana Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights over it. We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

1. Who Processes Your Data

2. What Data We Collect

Account data

Phone number, full name, email address (optional), country, subscription plan and billing history. Collected when you create an account and update your profile.

Location data

GPS coordinates at the time you press the emergency button or search for nearby hospitals. We collect location only when you actively use these features — never passively in the background.

Emergency and health data

Emergency event records (type, time, routing, hospital destination), BERF claim details (emergency category, claim amount, outcome). This is sensitive health-related data processed solely to deliver the service and administer BERF.

Trusted contacts

Names and phone numbers of contacts you add. These are alerted only when you trigger an emergency. We do not contact them for any other purpose.

Payment data

Transaction references and subscription status. Card numbers are processed and stored by Paystack — we never see or store your card details.

Usage data

Pages visited, features used, app performance logs. Used to improve the service and detect abuse. No advertising or cross-site tracking.

4. Who We Share Data With

We share data only where necessary to deliver the service:

  • Partner hospitals: Your subscriber reference and emergency details when you are routed to their facility
  • Trusted contacts: Your name and approximate location when you trigger an emergency
  • Paystack: Payment processing — subject to Paystack’s own privacy policy
  • Africa’s Talking / SMS providers: Your phone number for OTP and notification delivery
  • Supabase: Our database infrastructure — data is hosted on servers in the EU under standard contractual clauses

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. We do not share data with advertisers or data brokers. Ever.

5. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Account data: retained while your account is active and for 2 years after closure
  • Emergency event records: retained for 5 years (required for BERF audit and medical records purposes)
  • Payment records: retained for 7 years (Ghanaian tax law requirement)
  • Usage logs: retained for 90 days then automatically deleted

6. Your Rights

Under the Ghana Data Protection Act 2012, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your account and personal data (subject to legal retention obligations above)
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any right, email info@bedwatchafrica.com. We will respond within 14 days. You may also lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), server-side authentication, row-level security on all database tables, and no plain-text storage of sensitive fields. Our team undergoes regular security reviews. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to info@bedwatchafrica.com immediately.

8. Children

BedWatch Africa is not directed at children under 18. Parents and guardians may add minors to a Family plan — in this case, the subscribing adult is responsible for the minor’s data and accepts these terms on their behalf.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by SMS at least 14 days before they take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version.
